Property Tax Payments Being Processed

Here at Town Hall, 2017 ended with a bang as residents made $3 million worth of in-person property tax payments in the last two business days of the year. A river of payments continues to flow in by mail, concentrating a process that typically takes place over several weeks into just a few days. We therefore appreciate everyone’s patience as we process each payment.

With that in mind, here are answers to a few common questions:

  • Why did I get a bill by mail when I paid in December? Property tax bills were already at the post office when we started accepting in-person payments on December 28. If you got your tax amount online and paid by mail or in person with a check, you can keep an eye on your bank account to make sure it clears.
  • Can you stamp my yellow bill as paid? Unfortunately, we can’t because the check you submitted by mail or in person is mixed in with thousands of other payments, and we cannot legally give you a receipt until your payment has been fully processed. That said, as soon as your payment is processed, your receipt will be available online.
  • Why hasn’t my check been processed yet? Normally, we receive tax payments over the course of several weeks, which allows us to process each quickly. Because of the changes in federal tax laws at the very end of 2017, thousands and thousands of residents submitted their payments in a few days, overwhelming our capacity to process them. We appreciate your patience as we work through this difficult situation!
