$500 Reward to Find Who Abandoned Dead Dog in Garbage Bag

The New York State Humane Association, headquartered in Kingston, NY, is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for abandoning a dead dog in a garbage bag, found along Clapper Road in Selkirk on Thursday, February 1.  The dog was an older black and white male Beagle who had been denied proper care and veterinary treatment for some time, according to an initial report. It is not clear if the dog was deceased before being placed in the garbage bag. The dog's body is being sent to Cornell for a necropsy.

Anyone with information about this case should call Detective Ken Beck at the Bethlehem Police Department at (518) 439-9973. All calls will be kept confidential. The persons responsible for neglecting and abandoning this animal must be brought to justice.

The New York State Humane Association has conducted animal cruelty investigation workshops for police and humane investigators throughout the state for the past eighteen years and has offered rewards in the past to assist in police investigations. NYSHA held a workshop in Albany County a few years ago.

On Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 1:00 PM the Bethlehem Police Department received a report of a deceased dog found in a black plastic garbage bag roadside on Clapper Road in the area of Church Road in Selkirk.

The dog was an older black and white male beagle mix with evidence of lack of care and treatment.  

At this time the incident is under investigation by members of the Bethlehem Police Department and the cause of death has yet to be determined.
