On Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 11:49AM, the Bethlehem Police Department responded to the Capital Communications Federal Credit Union in Glenmont after receiving a report of a subject trying to cash a counterfeit check.  Upon arrival of members of the Bethlehem Police Department, they located Kyla M. Sledge, 21, of Endicott NY, attempting to pass a counterfeit payroll check, and fraudulently obtain money.

Bethlehem Police developed information that Sledge had been dropped off at the credit union and that other individuals involved in passing counterfeit checks were in a vehicle in the area.  Police located a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu in the Glenmont Walmart parking lot.  Based on the investigation Bethlehem Police arrested five additional occupants of the Malibu, after they were found in possession of multiple other counterfeit checks.   Police also located mobile printing and check making equipment in the vehicle.

Arrested in the vehicle were Johnoy O. Crockwell, 21, of Elmont NY, Anastasia A. Wells, 20, of Binghamton NY, Keyanna M. Banks, 20, of Vestal NY, Elijah K. Gibson, 17, of Endictott NY, and Carrie L. Clapper, 22, of Endicott NY.  All six individuals were charged with five felony counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, one felony count of Possession of a Forgery Device, and one misdemeanor count of Conspiracy in the Fifth Degree.  All six subjects were arraigned in the Town of Bethlehem Court by the Honorable Judge Ryan Donovan.  They were remanded to the Albany County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.  All six are scheduled to return to Bethlehem Court on March 6, 2018, at 4:00PM.

The investigation has determined that the subjects passed or attempted to pass counterfeit checks at multiple locations in Albany and Schenectady County, as well as potentially other locations on the I-88 corridor.  The investigation is on-going and anyone with information is asked to contact Bethlehem Police at 518-439-9973.
