Responsibilities of Office

The Building Inspector is responsible for routine inspections, residential and business construction, and general fire safety.  Contact the Building Department for:

• building permits
• information on new buildings or building lots
• building alterations or additions
• disabled access requirements
• enforcement of Town codes
• housing code enforcement
• insulation requirements
• smoke detectors (not for purchase at this office)
• Town Zoning Ordinances and maps
• wood stove installation
• heating and chimney alterations
• swimming pool installation
• decks, sheds, and detached garages

Per Section 128-82 of the Town Zoning Code, No person shall alter or add to any existing structure, or construct a new structure or part thereof, nor change the use of any building without a valid zoning and building permit issued by the Building Inspector.

If you have any questions as to whether something requires a zoning and building permit, contact the Building Division at Extension 1112 and they would be happy to assist you.

The town enforces the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code.  Local ordinances are available at the Building Inspector's Office for review.

POOL PERMITS

If the estimated value of proposed work is		Fee
$0        -           $3,000	=	$35.00
OVER $3,000 (round values to nearest thousand)	=	calculated:		$35.00 PLUS $1.00 per thousand over $3,000

BUILDING PERMITS

If the estimated value of proposed work is		Fee
$0        -           $3,000	=	$35.00
OVER $3,000 up to and including $200,000 (round values to nearest thousand)	=	calculated:		$35.00 PLUS $2.00 per thousand over $3,000
OVER $200,000 (round values to closest thousand)	=	calculated:		$35.00 for first $3,000 PLUS
				$2.00 per thousand over $3,000 up to and including $200,000 PLUS
				$3.00 per thousand over $200,000

EXAMPLE 1:

If the estimated value of the work is $200,000, the fee would be $429.00

$35.00 for first $3,000			$  35.00
plus $2 per thousand over 3,000	200,000 - 3,000 = 197,000	197 x 2	394.00
			$ 429.00

EXAMPLE 2:

If the estimated value of the work is $300,000, the fee would be $729.00

$35.00 for first $3,000			$  35.00
plus $2 per thousand over 3,000	200,000 - 3,000 = 197,000	197 x 2	394.00
plus $3 per thousand over 200,000	300,000 - 200,000 = 100,000	100 x 3	300.00
			$ 729.00

ROOFS

OVER $3,000 up to and including $15,000 (round values to nearest thousand)	=	calculated:		$35.00 PLUS $4.00 per thousand over $3,000 up to $15,000

Commercial

OVER $8,000 up to and including $25,000	=	calculated:		$75.00 PLUS $4.00 per thousand over $8,000 up to $25,000
Maximum Fee	=	$143.00
