HOURS OF OPERATION
Open April to Thanksgiving, Weather Permitting

Tuesday through Saturday 8:00AM - 4:00 PM

SCHEDULE OF FEES  
(As of April 1, 2007)

TOWN RESIDENTS - Permit required.* (Up to 4 yards per week)

- Compost and/or Wood Chips $4.00 per yard (under 1 yard, FREE)
- Compost and/or Wood Chips loaded by the Town $8.00 per yard (up to 4 yards per week)

COMMERCIAL AND NON-RESIDENTIAL RATES

- Wood Chips $8.00 per yard
- Unscreened Compost $12.00 per yard
- Screened Compost $20.00 per yard

YARD WASTE DROP-OFF FEES

- Town Residents (up to 4 yards per week) FREE
- Commercial Rates $10.00 per yard

NO STUMPS OR LOGS.  ONLY BRUSH, GRASS AND LEAVES ARE ACCEPTABLE.
Town Residents will be charged the commercial rate if taking or dropping off more than 4 yards per week.

GARDEN DAY -- Free leaf compost and wood chips are available to area gardeners with a town permit. 2010 Garden Day is Saturday, April 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

*RESIDENTIAL PERMITS (yellow sticker on rear view mirror) are available at the Rupert Road Transfer Station or the Compost Facility during operating hours; the Town Clerk's Office at the Town Hall or the Elm Avenue Park Offices, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; or Highway Department, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring your vehicle registration, and proof of Town residency.  Proof of residency includes either your valid driver's license or a current utility or tax bill if your driver’s license doesn’t have your current address. Both the Landfill and Compost permits are good for the lifetime of your vehicle. Only one permit is needed for town residents to utilize the Landfill/Transfer Station and/or the Compost Facility.  The permit is free of charge.

If you are a Bethlehem resident and renting or using a vehicle besides your own, you can get a temporary permit at the Town of Bethlehem Highway Department or the Town Clerk's Office.  You will need to bring your proof of residency, along with year/make/model and license plate number of the borrowed vehicle.  The temporary permit is free of charge and is valid for two weeks.

NON-RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL PERMITS
Town businesses need to obtain a commercial permit to use the Transfer Station. Out of town contractors are permitted to use the Transfer Station if they are working in Bethlehem, but must obtain a permit for their work location.  The Compost Facility has a fee schedule for residential, non-residential and business customers.

All commercial permits must be obtained at the Highway Garage at 74 Elm Avenue East, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Yard Waste is composted at the Town's Compost and Wood Chipping Facility.  Properly prepared yard waste is picked up by the Town of Bethlehem Highway Department.  Reusable containers and paper bags are acceptable.  Bags and containers should not weigh over 50 lbsPlastic bags for yard waste are UNACCEPTABLE.

Year-round, brush and branches should be stacked neatly at curbside.

During Spring Cleanup (the month of April exclusively) and Fall (about October 15) leaves can be left loose at curbside; no brush or trees from private contractors.  NOTE: There is no set schedule during the Fall Loose Leaf Pickup, due to the volume of leaves.  Year round, brush can be stacked neatly at curbside in lengths not over 6 feet. 

Please do not obstruct the road with brush, leaf or grass piles.  Placing debris into the roadway constitutes a violation of the law as well as creates a hazardous situation for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Leave grass on the lawn to replenish nitrogen.

Yard Waste Paper Bags can be purchased, 3 for $1 at the Town Hall,
Compost Facility, Elm Avenue Park, Highway Department, and Rupert Road Transfer Station.

Directions to Compost Facility:
From the Elm Avenue Park, take Route 32 south for 2 miles.  Turn left into the Bethlehem Compost Facility.
OR
Take Route 9W to Creble Road (County Route 55).  If you are heading south on 9W, turn right onto Creble Road, if you are heading north on 9W, turn left onto Creble Road.   Proceed 3.6 miles to Route 32 (Feura Bush Road).  Turn right and proceed 3 miles.  Turn right into the Bethlehem Compost Facility.
