Picnic Facilities

The Large Pavilion at Elm Avenue Park There are three pavilions at Elm Avenue Park. Two are small and can accommodate approximately 35 people each. The large pavilion can seat approximately 400 people. All of the pavilions have picnic tables and grills.  The large pavilion also has horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, a softball field, rest rooms, electricity and over-sized grills. The pavilions are open from 9 a.m. to dusk Monday through Saturday and Noon to dusk on Sundays. Residents of the Town of Bethlehem and Town of Bethlehem-based organizations may reserve the pavilions at Elm Avenue Park for recreational functions. Beginning January 2 of each year, town residents and Town of Bethlehem-based organizations may call 439-4955, option 3 to determine availability and obtain a permit request form (or you can print one from the links, below). The fee information is also available on the links below for each facility.  Permits for ALL users will be issued on a first come, first paid basis.  Picnic tables are also available at the playground, the tennis area, near the small pavilions, and in the glass enclosed area adjacent to the pool complex.

Playground

The playground area has slides, swings, mazes, sandboxes, a variety of other apparatus, a picnic area, shade and portable rest rooms. The playground area may not be reserved and closes at dusk. Please note, the playground area will be closed for three days in July or August for maintenance. Please observe the rules posted at the entrance to the playground.

Playing Fields

Playing fields include seven softball fields, five baseball fields and nine soccer fields at Elm Avenue Park. These areas are generally reserved for community teams in the evenings and weekends from April through October. The field areas are generally available on weekdays until 5:00pm. Town based organizations may reserve playing fields by contacting the Parks and Recreation office.  A field request form, a certificate of insurance naming the Town of Bethlehem as the additional insured and a complete practice and game schedule are required.

A snack bar and restroom facility at the Line Drive ball field area are available. Line Drive is located off the Route 32 Bypass Extension.

Fitness Trail

The 1.3 mile fitness trail winds through a wooded area at the rear of the park, and includes 20 exercise stations with 32 different exercises. Please follow the instructions for each station and walk the upper section to avoid injury. The trail also serves as a very nice walking/nature trail. The trail is open until dusk, year round. Bicycles and all motorized vehicles are prohibited.

Tennis and Basketball Courts

Basketball Courts at Elm Avenue ParkTwo basketball courts are available and are lit in the evenings beginning the end of May. Lights are turned off at 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Courts may not be reserved for individuals. Basketballs may be signed out at the pool desk. Please observe court rules posted.

Eight tennis courts are available at the Elm Avenue Park. Four courts are lit in the evenings beginning the end of May, depending on usage and weather conditions. Lights are turned off at 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Courts may not be reserved for individuals. Please observe the court rules posted on the bulletin board at the courts.

Volleyball-Horseshoes-Shuffleboard

Sand Volleyball Court at Elm Avenue Park Three volleyball courts are located within the park. Two courts with a sand surface are located next to small pavilion A. A third court is located at the large pavilion.

Equipment can be signed out at the pool desk or the Parks and Recreation office.

Winter Activities

The ice skating rink is scheduled to be open daily for general skating when the ice is four inches thick with a good surface. Call 439-4955, option 3 for current conditions and updates. Skating hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday and during school vacations. For skating information including current conditions and updates call 439-4955, option 3, 24 hours a day. When the green flag is flying, the skating rink is open. If the red flag is flying, the skating rink is closed. To accommodate hockey players, a portion of the rink will be set aside for hockey. There is no charge for skating or playing hockey.

Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are allowed in all the parks, except on the skating rink, including Colonial Acres. The trails begin at the tennis courts and are marked but not groomed. Maps are available at the Park office.

Snowmobiling is permitted in the field area south of the park office building along Route 32.  Open during daylight hours only.

Sledding is available on the large hill behind the small pavilion A and at Maple Ridge Park. The hills may be closed if they are too icy. Please, no skis or snow boards on the hills. Open during the daylight hours only.
