Receiving the department Gallantry Award are the following officers:
D/Sgt. Markel, TSI Vunck, Officer Tim Travis and Officer James Cross

These officers responded to an armed robbery at the Marshalls’ store in Glenmont where the suspect displayed a weapon. These responding officers showed great restraint when confronted by the suspect, all while protecting other responding officers and the public. You are to be commended for your actions during this tense situation.

 

 

Sergeant Brian Hughes Receiving the Chief’s Achievement Award is the following officer:
Sgt. Brian Hughes

While on patrol you initiated a traffic stop that resulted in two search warrants being executed that resulted in the recovery of 65 counterfeit credit cards, over $10,000 in high end electronics and $3000 in American Express cards purchased with the counterfeit cards. This resulted in a joint investigation with the US Secret Service that closed over 15 open cases in New York and New Jersey. You are to be commended for a job well done.

 

 

Sergeant Helligrass and Officer Whiteley Receiving the Chief’s Achievement Award are the following officers:
Sgt. Robert Helligrass and Detective Michael Whiteley

These officers have been chosen to receive this award for your outstanding contribution to the community through your work with the Sex Offender Registry and Sex Offender Watch Programs. Because of you hard work and determination, the department was awarded for “Best Practices of Sex Offender Management” by the New York State Chief’s of Police. You are to be commended for a job well done.

 

 

Officers Beck and G. Travis Receiving the Chief’s Achievement Award are the following officers:
Officer George Travis and Officer Ken Beck

You have been selected to receive the Chief’s Achievement Award for being chosen as 2009 Officer of the Year. You put the lives of others above your own and risked your own personal safety to rescue two people from a burning home on Adams Street. You are to be commended for your actions which resulted in the saving of lives. Congratulations on a job well done under extremely dangerous circumstances.

 

 

Detective Hornick Receiving the department Drug Buster Award:
Detective Adam Hornick

You have been chosen to receive the department Drug Buster Award. While on patrol you observed an individual that was known to you exit the Hess station and enter a vehicle. You knew that this individual had an outstanding warrant and you subsequently pulled him over. After a traffic stop was conducted, he was found to have 2149 decks of heroin located in his vehicle. He was consequently placed under arrest and charged with multiple felonies. Congratulations on a job well done.

 

 

Officer Sleurs Receiving the department Life Saving Award:
TSI Craig Sleurs

You have been chosen to receive the department Life Saving Award for your response to an incident involving a man that had reportedly collapsed. You responded to a local business to find the manager unconscious and not breathing. By using the AED, you were able to revive the man. Because of your immediate action, you were able to save a life that day. Congratulations on a job well done.

 

 

Receiving the department Life Saving Award:
Officer George Travis and Officer Ken Beck, Dispatchers Powell, Tice and Gould

You have been chosen to receive the department Life Saving Award for your response to an incident involving a structure fire with occupants inside the residence. Several 911 calls were made reporting explosions at a Delmar residence; EMS and fire personal were immediately dispatched to 151 Adams Place. You were able to make entry into the smoke filled home and rescue a 15 year old male who had suffered substantial burns to his body. While doing so, you were able to advise a female occupant of the residence to vacate the house. Immediately thereafter, the residence became filled with smoke and fire. Because of your immediate action you were able to save two lives that day. You are to be commended for your quick action in the face of a very serious and life threatening situation. I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks for a job well done.

 

 

Officer Travis Receiving the department Life Saving Award:
Officer George Travis

You have been chosen to receive the department Life Saving Award for your response to an incident where a man had attempted suicide by hanging himself from the rafters in his basement. Through your efforts, you were able to remove him from the rafters, summon EMS and began CPR in an effort to resuscitate him. After several minutes a pulse was found and he was transported to the hospital for treatment. Your calm, professional response in the face of a crisis is directly responsible for saving a life.

You are to be commended for your quick action in the face of a very serious medical emergency and for making our community a safer place to live. I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks for a job well done.

 

 

Officer Cross Receiving the department Life Saving Award:
Officer James Cross and Officer Ryan VanAmburgh

You have been chosen to receive the department Life Saving Award for your response to an incident where a young man had attempted suicide by hanging himself from a tree. Through your efforts, you were able to remove him from the tree and he was then transported to the hospital for treatment. Your calm, professional response in the face of a crisis is directly responsible for saving a life. You are to be commended for your quick action in the face of a very serious medical emergency and for making our community a safer place to live. I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks for a job well done.
