Policy

The Bethlehem Police Department may provide members with access to portable recorders, either audio or video or both, for use during the performance of their duties.  The use of recorders is intended to enhance the mission of the Department by accurately capturing contacts between members of the Department and the public.

The Bethlehem Police Department is committed to the belief that the use of recording devices are a valuable tool for law enforcement, and are expected to result in greater transparency, more effective prosecution, and improved protection against false allegations of excessive use of force, misconduct, or racial profiling.  The use of recording devices may also enhance officer performance by using recordings for training purposes.
