The Town of Bethlehem Department of Public Works is seeking Water Treatment Plant Operator candidates to work at the Town’s water treatment facilities. Primary duties include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Operate and maintain the Water Treatment Plant in compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations and standards;
- Monitor plant functions and data outputs and react as needed to maintain production quality. Perform required system checks and make necessary adjustments. Collect maintenance data and record readings;
- Repair and perform ongoing preventative maintenance of equipment and upkeep of property and plant grounds;
- Read, test and sample water to ensure water quality meets required standards and regulations. Prepare required reports and maintain plant records;
- Assists in instruction of trainees;
- Attend training classes and participate in self-study activities to keep abreast of changing technologies, to include sufficient valid continuing education needed to maintain appropriate operating certificate.
Minimum Qualifications Required: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, completion of an appropriate course of instruction approved by the New York State Department of Health, at least one year of satisfactory experience in the actual operation of a water treatment plant with facilities for filtration with pretreatment or for chemical softening or any similar process.
Special Requirement for Acceptance of Applications: Possession of a Type II-A certificate issued under provisions of the NYS Sanitary Code.
