Certificate of Residence

The Town Clerk can issue Certificates of Residence to Bethlehem residents OR you can find the application and fill it out online through the Albany County Division of Finance. There is no fee for a Certificate of Residence.

Proof of Residence

In order to qualify for a Certificate of Residence you must prove you have resided in New York for one year AND in Albany County for some part of the last six months.

Proof of residence documents must:

  1. Be in your name;
  2. Include a street address (not a P.O. Box);
  3. Be at least six months old to prove Albany County residence; 
  4. Be at least one year old to prove New York State residence 

Suggested Proof of Residence Documents

  • Driver’s license
  • High school transcript
  • NYS TAP information
  • Bank statement
  • W-2 for previous year
  • Payroll check stub with home address
  • Official business mail
  • Car registration
  • Lease agreement
  • Tax or water bill

Please note, if you are NOT a US citizen you must also provide proof of legal entry to the US.  Acceptable proof might be a green card or a Form I-551 (usually stamped on your passport).

If you have the required proof of residence, you may email all documents to Albany County (per their instructions) OR feel free to stop by our office with the required proof and obtain your certificate.
